Dry Needling

Trigger point dry needling is a treatment technique that uses small filament type needles to release areas in tight muscles called trigger points. These are hyper-sensitive areas in muscles, tendons or connective tissue that are usually accompanied by tenderness.

Once inserted the needles are manipulated until a sensation is felt. Techniques vary from inserting the needle and leaving it in for 15 minutes or so with occasional manipulation to constant peppering of the needle into the region. The manipulation may occur more than once during the treatment.

Your appointment

The procedure takes about 10 – 15 minutes and may be incorporated into the physiotherapy treatment if required.

It is not usually painful, in fact is can produce a pleasant sensation as the twitch is activated and the trigger point pain is deactivated. The problem can is usually resolved in 1 -3 treatments.

Dry needling/ acupuncture produces very few side affects, however you will be required to sign a consent form.
